The Spoon Stewards (Help serve a meal)
Volunteer service in the kitchen can range from helping serve meals to helping prep meals for our clients. Shift opportunities are available for those interested.
Donation Center-Helping Hands
As an influx of donations arrive, assistance is needed with organizing and assembling necessity kits. This opportunity is flexible with times and days, but by appointment only to maintain limited participants in this station.
*Note: As part of our COVID-19 precautions, we are limiting the amount of volunteers in one station at a time and require all individuals to wear a mask at all times.
The physical activities involved can include the following:
Lifting heavy bags
Bending and reaching for items
Pushing shopping carts
Walking and standing for a long period of time
Assist with reTreats Program
This innovative employment project addresses a pressing social need through an evidence-based, trauma informed employment opportunity for youth and young adults experiencing homelessness in the Kansas City area. This alternative approach serves individuals facing barriers to mainstream workforce opportunities to provide a path out of homelessness.
If you are interested in assisting with this opportunity, please notify development@restartinc.org with any food allergies.
Host a Drive
This is a remote opportunity for volunteers to connect with community and support the donation needs for our agency. Our donation needs can vary, but monthly items are needed. Sign up to host a drive today!
Help a Veteran Shop
Shopping for household goods and groceries can be a hassle for many of the Veterans we assist due to the physical and mental demands. Grocery orders will be placed by our staff, and volunteers will pick up the items and deliver them to our clients. This opportunity will be on an as needed/ on call basis and notification will be received within a 72 hour notice (at minimum). This preparation involves donating non-perishable and individually wrapped food items (see examples listed below), as well as assembling and delivering the sacks. reStart Move-in-Kits welcome individuals and families into permanent housing with essential household items. By providing Move-in Kits, you help people thrive in their new homes. This preparation involves donating essential move in items (as suggested below) assembling and delivering each kit.

As a non-profit agency that provides housing and wrap-around services to individuals, families and youth experiencing homelessness, we currently need new or gently used twin size sheets, bath and hand towels, underwear, and sports bras. General Monthly Needs:
