September: Take ACTION this Hunger Action Month
At reStart, we know hunger and homelessness go hand-in-hand. When families lose housing, they often lose the stability that keeps food on the table. Hunger does more than empty stomachs. It drains strength, steals focus, and erodes hope. For children, it robs them of the chance to learn, grow, and simply be kids.
Take ACTION this Hunger Action Month
This Hunger Action Month, we are calling on our Kansas City community to stand with us against food insecurity. Each year, reStart serves nearly 90,000 meals. These are not just trays of food. They are hot and nourishing meals served with dignity, reminders that every person who comes through our doors is worthy of care and compassion. A plate of food can be the first step toward healing.
But the need is urgent. Families arrive at our shelter carrying not only the pain of losing their homes, but also the weight of hunger. This year, we are projected to turn away more than 600 families because we have no space. That means children go to bed without knowing where their next meal is coming from. No child in Kansas City should have to face that reality.
This is where you come in. Your support makes hope tangible.
-
Volunteer: Step into our kitchen and help prepare the meals that restore strength and dignity.
-
Give: A gift of $50 (insert link to donation page) will put 20 full plates of food in front of families who would otherwise go hungry. Your generosity fills bellies and lifts spirits.
-
Advocate: Share the truth with others. Hunger is here in our city, but together, we can end it. Encourage them to subscribe to our newsletter, follow us on social media (insert links to either linktree or social media pages specifically), or make a gift of time (insert link to volunteer page) or treasure (insert link to donation page) to support reStart.
A stronger Kansas City begins with the simple act of making sure every person is nourished. Especially children. With your help, we can turn Hunger Action Month into a turning point for individuals and families who deserve both food and the safety of a home.
Thank you for choosing to act with us. Together, we can move our neighbors from hunger to health, from despair to hope.
With gratitude,
Stephanie Boyer
